The old-fashioned method of providing primary care in the home has made a return to medicine.
“House calls” are a convenient alternative to seeing a primary care provider (doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant) in the office clinic setting. House calls provide primary medical care in person, in your home.
Our in-home services include:
- Primary care services five days per week
- Annual check ups
- Medication management
- Wound care
- Specialty referrals
- Short term recovery care
If you are planning or have experienced major illness, hospitalization, surgery, hip fracture, or similar illness, you may be eligible to have follow up primary care visits performed in your home through this service. It is a convenient option that allows you to remain in the comfort of your home to rest and recover. After the initial recovery period, you can resume care under your established primary care provider, if you choose.
Frequently asked questions
Q: Is this the same as home health care?
A: No. Medical house calls focus on primary care services for preventative care and acute illness.
Home Health visits are a higher level of care that have different qualification criteria. Services are usually performed by a nurse or therapist who provides care in the home as an extension of a home health agency.
Q: Is a medial house call different than the care provided in the office?
A: No. The service is the same, but the location is different. In both settings, a medical assessment is completed. The provider can recommend follow up care, prescribe medications, and order tests, just as they would in the office.
There is a select group of providers within Red Bud Health Clinic who provide house calls. You may be visited by a different provider than the one you regularly see in the clinic. However, the providers work together and will communicate to ensure that all parties are involved in your care, if needed.
Q: Why would I choose a House Call?
A: House calls are a convenient alternative for patients and caregivers who have difficulty getting to the doctor’s office due to transportation needs, physical limitations, time restraints, and more.
Q: How do I schedule a House Call?
A: If you are a new patient, call us at (618) 282-7373 to start the application process. If you are an existing patient, schedule your appointment by calling (618) 282-7373 and ask for a house call in place of an in-office visit.
Q: Do I have to be a patient of Red Bud Health Clinic to use this service?
A: Yes. For continuity of care, you will become a patient of Red Bud Health Clinic prior to receiving a house call.
If you have a short-term recovery need, such as 6-8 week period of recovery after surgery or hip fracture, you can establish with Red Bud Health Clinic for this period. After your initial at-home recovery, you can resume care with your established primary care provider and return to seeing him/her in the clinic office.
Q: Will my insurance pay for it?
A: Red Bud Health Clinic is enrolled in most standard insurance plans, including Medicare. Deductibles and co-pays are applied just as a regular in-office visit. Please note, we DO NOT accept Essence.
